Bob Debus for Macquarie E-news #5

Dear supporter,

During the past week I have been busy at work across the electorate, doorknocking, visiting workplaces, speaking about Labor's plans for the future at candidates' forums, attending community events and doing media interviews.

I have also launched a new YouTube video, outlining Labor's plans, including the rollout of high-speed broadband for the city and the bush, an Education Revolution, trade training in high schools, fairer workplace laws and the creation of a youth forum to allow young people to talk directly to the Government. Check it out at youtube.com/watch?v=3opyAGfor0Y .

With only three weeks left until election day, we urgently need your assistance with letterboxing, doorknocking and street stalls, so please contact my local campaign office if you are able to help out.

And if you want to talk to me directly about any federal issues, I will be at the Glenbrook Festival this Saturday morning, November 10, and then at the River Dreaming Festival in Bathurst from 2pm.

Sincerely,
Bob Debus

P.S. We are selling Kevin07 t-shirts for $10 on street stalls across the electorate and you can still buy a limited edition bottle of Kevin07 wine by downloading an order form from my website www.bobdebus.com.

What's happening:

New ad launched to expose Liberals' plan to go further with WorkChoices
Before the last election, John Howard did not say a word about his planned WorkChoices laws, which have got rid of unfair dismissal protections, cut take home pay and conditions like overtime and penalty rates. How much further will he and Mr Costello take these laws if they are re-elected?

Come along and meet Bob Hawke and hear how a Rudd Labor Government can secure Australia's future with a strong economy and a fairer society. With Gerard Martin MP as Master of Ceremonies.

When: 5-7pm , Friday November 9
Where: Lithgow Workmen's Club (The Millennium Room), 3 Tank Street, Lithgow
Cost: Entry is free, but numbers are limited

How you can help:

There are plenty of jobs to do leading up to election day. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. If you can help out please contact our local campaign office (Springwood – Amber Jacobus 4751 4239, Bathurst – Mike Dickson 6331 6488, Lithgow – Matt Martin 6352 5570).

Letterboxing
During the next fortnight we will need a large number of volunteers to help letterbox local voters with vital information about Labor's plans for the future.

Street Stalls and Train Stations

We are holding street stalls on Saturday mornings around the electorate and are handing out material on the early morning commuter trains in the Blue Mountains.

Signage
We are looking for front yards, shop windows and other prominent places to put up Bob Debus posters.

Election Day
We need volunteers to staff polling booths on election day.

Campaign updates:

Practical action on climate change: solar panels and water tanks in schools
This week Kevin Rudd announced that a Labor Government will provide schools in Bathurst, Oberon, Lithgow and the Blue Mountains with $50,000 grants to install solar panels, water tanks and other energy efficiency measures.

Labor's $489 million National Solar Schools Plan is a practical response to climate change, giving local schools grants of up to $20,000 to install solar panels and $30,000 for rainwater tanks, solar hot water systems and lighting upgrades.

It is critical that we deal with climate change for the future of our children, and the best place to start is with practical solutions to save energy and water in our schools.

Each school that installs a rainwater tank and solar panels will save up to 40,000 litres of water and reduce carbon emissions by 2.8 tonnes each year.

Investing in rural health in the Central West

If elected, a Rudd Labor Government will invest $6 million in supporting obstetricians in rural and regional areas and $2.5 million in additional rural scholarships for medical students.

This investment will significantly expand the support provided to obstetricians and other doctors undertaking specialist support in the Central West. It will also allow obstetricians working in the Central West to be relieved by a locum service, giving them access to much deserved breaks for rest and vital professional development.

These commitments are part of Labor's $2.5 billion plan to improve health and hospital services around the country, including:

· Targeted investment for areas of high need, particularly rural and regional areas
· A long-term plan for improving rural health services,
· $600 million to cut elective surgery waiting lists,
· $81 million to put extra nurses in country hospitals,
· The creation of GP Super Clinics
· $260 million to improve health care for indigenous children
· The re-establishment of the Commonwealth Dental Health Program to fund up to 1 million consultations and treatments through public dental services

Make a Donation:

While Kerry Bartlett has been supported by millions of dollars worth of taxpayer funded advertisements, and thousands of dollars worth of taxpayer funded campaign material, our campaign relies on community support. Any contribution big or small to support our fight to provide a better deal for working families would be most welcome. Donations up to $1500 are tax deductible. Cheques can be made out to 'ALP NSW Branch – Bob Debus for Macquarie Campaign' and sent to PO Box 636, Katoomba 2780.
