Bob Debus for Macquarie E-news #1Dear supporter, Welcome to my first email bulletin for the upcoming election campaign. After 11 years in power the Howard Government has lost touch with ordinary Australians. In contrast, Kevin Rudd and the Labor team have a plan for our long term future and are ready to lead. This election is a fork in the road. A choice between more of the same from a stale Government, or a new direction that protects working families, addresses climate change, invests in education and training, and improves our health system. As the Labor Candidate for Macquarie, I look forward to working with you, in this vital campaign to deliver a better future for all in our local community. Sincerely, Bob Debus Campaign update: While the official election campaign is yet to commence, our team has been hard at work for several months. We have been out and about in the electorate meeting with local people, community groups and organisations, holding street stalls and mobile offices, talking to local businesses and doorknocking. Every day has been an important opportunity to listen to the views of this diverse electorate. We have held forums on industrial relations, the dental crisis, climate change and the environment. And next month, we will host a forum on Iraq with Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Robert McClelland. Several Labor frontbenchers have already visited the electorate – Labor Leader Kevin Rudd, Shadow Minister for the Environment and for Arts Peter Garrett, Shadow Health Minister Nicola Roxon, Shadow Treasurer Wayne Swan, Shadow Veterans Affairs Minister Alan Griffin and Jenny Macklin, our Shadow Minister for Families and Community Services. We have also hosted national Labor taskforces to investigate local concerns about industrial relations and the lack of high-speed broadband. I am also available to meet with you directly to discuss federal issues. Simply contact our team to arrange a time at our offices in Bathurst, Springwood or Lithgow. Alternatively, please come along to one of these events: Greg Combet Politics in the Pub Meet Julia Gillard in Lithgow Australia on the International Stage Friends of the ABC - Meet the Candidates Enrol to Vote The Howard Government has changed the electoral laws to prevent people from enrolling after the election is called, potentially robbing thousands of people of their vote. Make sure you don't miss out. Enrol correctly today. And remember, you must enrol again if you have moved house since voting last. You can enrol as soon as you turn 17. Call 13 23 36 or visit www.aec.gov.au . Help with the Campaign There are plenty of jobs to do leading up to the big day. You could help by working in one of our campaign offices, letterboxing, doorknocking or staffing one of the 60 polling booths across Macquarie on election day. Please contact your nearest Debus Campaign Office in Lithgow, Springwood or Bathurst. Another valuable campaign contribution is to put a Bob Debus poster in your front yard, or a small poster in your car window or shopfront. These are available from the campaign offices or we can deliver one to your home. Donate Unlike Kerry Bartlett, we don't have access to taxpayer -funded campaign material. Any contribution to the campaign would be most welcome and will help us as we continue to fight for working families across the electorate. Cheques can be made out to ALP NSW Branch – Bob Debus for Macquarie Campaign and sent to PO Box 636, Katoomba 2780.
